What is the difference between Buddhism and mindfulness?

The following notes were compiled from Kevin Guo’s talk at the UQ Multifaith Centre on the 7th of October, 2014.

Mindfulness in modern psychology has its historical roots in Zen and Theravada meditation, BUT, Buddhism is much more than mindfulness.

*Buddhism has precepts & ethics (5 precepts, 8 precepts)- mindfulness doesn’t prescribe ethics
*Buddhism is “more intense”: e.g. comparing meditation centre program to a MBSR program
*Buddhism culminates in wisdom, such as vipassana meditation and 16 insight knowledges (nana)…and finally, nibbana!

May you be well and happy!
